What is the Model Building Tool

VT Modeler?

VT Modeler is a tool that describes models using integral block diagrams and performs simulations based on the theory of physical function models.
The theory of physical function models focuses on the exchange of function and energy between parts inside a product, and is a modeling method that allows physical models to be constructed using a common linear theory, following the physical laws of different engineering fields such as electrical, mechanical, fluid, and thermodynamics.
With this theory, models constructed by connecting physical quantity pairs whose product is energy guarantee not only the input and output between parts, but also the energy balance between all elements inside the parts. By separating the linear and nonlinear parts and describing them in a single model, steady and transient states can be simulated with a single model, allowing for the construction of highly accurate models. Furthermore, the state equation can be output from the described model diagram, and with a single button click, it can be converted to C language, allowing for high-speed model execution through compilation.

About Physical Function Models

The physical function model, a new modeling method, focuses on the functions and energy flowing between parts within a product. VT Modeler is a tool that realizes model construction in a graphical environment based on this theory, and it can automatically set the energy input/output flow as paired terminals.

Model Construction Not Constrained by Engineering Fields

Functional models are a method of creating physical models according to physical laws such as electricity, mechanics, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics, and then running simulations based on them. Physical models from different engineering fields can be assembled using a common theory.

Flexible Handling of Nonlinear Elements

Nonlinear elements, which are the intrinsic theories of each model, are incorporated as partial nonlinear models (mechanism models) into functional model blocks composed of linear theories. In the model building tool, nonlinear models are connected as yellow blocks with signal lines.

Output of State Equations

Constructed models can be output as state equations. This means that the mathematical formulas necessary for computer simulation can be automatically extracted without relying on complex mathematical theories.

Model Construction Using Combinations of Basic Elements

Model construction allows for the construction of many linear models by combining basic elements. These basic elements include mass, viscous loss, elasticity, plasticity loss, force source, velocity source, and coefficients. When constructing a product model, models are created for each component that makes up the product, and the overall product model is created by assembling these components.

Solid Motion and Solid Deformation

Solid motion is represented by blocks that show its characteristics using kinematics and fluid dynamics, while solid deformation is represented by material mechanics and thermodynamics. These can be modeled using the same method. For models that cannot be represented solely by motion characteristics, such as car engines, converters, and tires, the overall model is created by adding element models related to deformation and heat.

Representing Stationary, Steady, and Transient States

Functional models can represent three states: a stationary state where position is maintained, a steady state where motion is maintained, and a transient state where the state transitions. Furthermore, to represent the steady state, it is possible to create a steady-state model from a transient model by normalizing models that use integral symbols, such as mass and stiffness.
